Question of the Week
Can you remember a time when the “pass it on” or “pay it forward” abundance mentality changed your life or someone else’s?
When my younger sister’s husband was diagnosed with brain cancer 5 years ago I felt frustrated that there was little I could do since we are 3 states away from each other. One email to my friends and colleagues literally showered her with gift cards to almost one hundred restaurants that allowed her to concentrate on her husband and her two young daughters. The abundance of love from people who didn’t even know her was amazing. Sometimes you just have to ask and people will “pass it on” in such heartfelt ways.
Those gift cards for meals from strangers represented so much more for her and for me. The relief of not having to worry about “what’s for dinner” was lifted at least one burden in a time of crisis.
Sometimes people don’t know how to ‘pass it on’. You ask yourself: Will I be intruding on someone’s privacy? Or tell yourself: Maybe they don’t want my help. I have learned that whenever you are in doubt, do the nice thing. Sometimes the smallest gestures are the ones that mean the most.
I have been struggling with answering this question as Sherra as sweetly reminded me each day – “You haven’t answered the question yet!!”
This evening as I was contemplating, again, the question I realized that today I had an abundance exerpience. I hosted a “home party” for a friend of mine that has started as a consultant with a new direct sales company.
You see, this friend use to be a leader on my team, with the direct sales company I am with. It would have been easy to have been upset or hurt that she was leaving behind her business with my company to start with a new company. But instead I decided that because she was my friend and because I strive on a daily basis to think abundantly I wanted to support and encourage her in her new venture. So I invited my friends to join me in helping her with her new business.
I know that there is plenty for everyone. I know that being kind and supportive of others is what is right and the only place we will ever find a lack of abundance is between our own two ears!
The saying “Many hands make light work” I believe also refers to the big picture of abundance. All the little things we do contributes to the abundance of everyone. All the smiles, laughs, hugs, kindneses get.. passed on to the next person…it’s the golden rule! I believe if we live in the moment, as much as possible, it always effects our future.
As a massage therapist for 15 years and single mother of 4…I had plenty opportunity to worry or stress. I gave up worry for faith in abundance and knowing I would always have my needs met. Part of that faith was knowing if I did my part…putting into the pot…I would always get my share, without exception.
