Our Favorite Girlfriend Movies

Three things related to our word of the month…or three random things we thought of while we were shopping, driving, sleeping…well, you get the idea. The only thing we can guarantee is that Sherra thinks in threes and she insisted we do this on Thursday. She’s bossy like that.

Three favorite movies that we both agreed are classic, timeless “connecting with girlfriends” movies that we never get tired of watching…

Leigh Anne & Sherra say…

  1. Steel Magnolias
  2. Fried Green Tomatoes
  3. Beaches

We’re sparing you our personal reviews because we think the movie titles speak for themselves.

Anyone out there who has not seen those three movies?

Anyone who likes to eat fried green tomatoes?

Anyone not cry when you watched Beaches?

What are some of your favorite movies that honor those all-important girlfriend connections?

I must admit that I have not seen Fried Green tomatoes! Probably a crime for a born and raise Georgia peach!

I must also admit that I cried so hard in Beaches that I thought I was going to need sedation! It just broke my heart! I was glad it was at home and not at the theater because I would nave embarrassed myself.

I’m a sicko- I haven’t ever actually sat down and watched any of them! I’ve intended to many times but something always seems to come up! I’ll now make it a goal.

Sense and Sensibility
Emma
Little Women

Last week I went with some girls friends to see THE WOMEN ` it was a GREAT girlfriend movie!

I love Steel Magnolias!! I actually watched it yesterday as I prepped for a class. I love how it makes me laugh! Only during this movie can you laugh and cry as you witness the funeral scene! It is a classic!

Oh yes seen them all cried of course at all. But have to say one of my favorite chick flicks is Thelma and Louise. Come on did those girls know how to have fun or what. I like to think at the end that they actually made it across the grand canyon alive. lol

I love Steel Magnolias! (Haven’t seen the other two, but have put them on my list to see asap). Recently I saw Bucket List with two dear friends that are fighting cancer. Afterwards we made our Bucket List and slowly are getting a few more things checked off. We all love Nicholas Spark’s books, so have loved the movies–Message in a Bottle, Notebook, etc. THANKS for giving us a walk down memory lane.

Something to Talk About with Dennis Quaid and Julia Roberts. Kyra Sedgwick and Robert Duvall are also key players in this flick. Have seen all of the above mentioned numerous times, and there’s nothing like a good cry and introspective self-examination. ;0) While it’s not a “cryer” (and neither is Something to Talk About, by the way) when Harry Met Sally is a great study of people and their relationships over time. ( Not to mention that I live in a house FULL of men and this one you can actually coax them to watch this one)! Would love to see The Women.

Don’t have much time to write because I’m off to catch a plane but one of my current favorites is “Sweet Land.” A testiment to making marriage work, scenery is beautiful, just a great, great movie. Oh by the way it is a great movie! An indi filmed in Southern Minnesota, available through Netflix and since that’s where I get my movies I’m not sure about other places but I did see it for sale at Target. It’s one of the few I’d invest in to watch again and again. did I say it’s GREAT?

“The Banger Sisters”!!!! LOL

I’ve seen them all but have to say that for years I never cried during Beaches. I might get misty but I never cried. More than once my best friend called me heartless as she sobbed through it. Then came my 2nd pregnancy. LOL She swore it was a girl because I cried my way though the WHOLE thing (she was right). When Harry Met Sally is one of my favorites because it reminds me of the relationship my husband and I shared before we got married. Not a single girlfriend who really knows us can watch it without bringing us up! Our wedding song was It Had to Be You!

Boy, it’s been a long time. I haven’t ever seen Beaches, but I have seen the other two. Honestly, I can’t remember much about Steel Magnolias other than the big frosted hair dos and someone collapsing at the end.

My personal favorite girlfriend movies are Mama Mia, the Scarlet Pimpernel (Jane Seymour version) and the hope-you-have-a-soft-spot-to-sit-because-it’s-really-long version of Pride and Prejudice.
