Home: My Kitchen

Introducing a new column we’ll feature from time to time…because as we’ve told you before we love to find things. Look for Sherra’s “Finding the Funny” later this month.

Right now, enjoy this peek into Leigh Anne’s home and her fabulous gift for “Finding the Pretty.”

Leigh Anne says…
Our word of the month is Home here at iLashGirls.  Home can mean many different things to different people.  But when I think of home the first things I think of are family and food.  Yes – the two go together at our house.  We are a bunch of foodies!

So when Sherra and I decided to write about our favorite room in our home, the kitchen of course was my first choice!

I love my kitchen.

My kitchen is just an average kitchen.

I don’t have state of the art appliances.  In fact my stovetop is black and the dishwasher is stainless and my refrigerator and oven are still white – someday, maybe after the kids are out of college, they will all match.

There are definitely things I would change about my kitchen – a bigger pantry and double ovens are at the top of the list but I love my kitchen!

Why do I love it?

I love it because it is truly the heart and center of our home.  It is where we all come together.

Not only are meals prepared and eaten in my kitchen but it is where the kids gather to do their homework, games are played with lots of laughs and of course the occasional quarrel and disagreement – what would a family game be without that!

The kitchen is where we eat and pray together.  When people stop by – they don’t sit down in the living room or the family room – they pull out a stool and sit around the island  or the kitchen table and visit.

When we have parties, no matter how hard I try to get people to visit in the other rooms everyone ends up in the kitchen – gathered around the island!

Because I spend so much time in my kitchen I want it to be as pretty as any other room of my house.  The walls are a yummy, buttery yellow.  I have surrounded myself with pretty things.  If I have to use a mixing bowl – it might as well be a pretty one!

I usually have a candle or two or three or four or even five burning in my kitchen.

I love hand painted pottery and ceramics and have quite a collection that lines the tops and insides of my cabinets.  I don’t just look at it – I use it too!  Pretty cookbooks are another thing that line the shelves of my kitchen.  A cookbook should not only have yummy recipes but pretty pictures too!

My favorite kitchen tool is my Kitchen-Aid!  I love that thing and it is well used, chipped and worn and is almost always covered in flour, sugar, or something!  Someday I hope to have a green one!

One of the other things I love about my kitchen is that it looks out into my garden – another favorite “room” in my home!

But the best part of my kitchen is all the yummy food that is made there and shared by family and friends!

Welcome to my kitchen!  Come on in and pull up a stool!

All of these lovely pictures of my kitchen were taken by my friend and wonderful photographer Meg.  You can check out her work at her blog – Megan Daines Photography

Your kithen does look dreamy. I love all the light streaming in, and it is definitely a bonus to look out at your garden.

Your kitchen is beautiful! My kitchen is probably my favorite too. I’m always looking for ways to improve my home!

Firstly, I love your kitchen! So bright and airy and welcoming!

Secondly, thanks for helping us out! We’ve been slowly redoing our kitchen. Our walls are very similar to yours in color and we’ve been wondering if painting the cabinets white would work. Seeing yours, we know the answer is yes. :-D

Your kitchen is amazing, but the cook and creator that resides there AMAZES all of us! Thanks for sharing!

Whohooo! I was right! I love the natural light. It looks so sunny and inviting. I love that you have found the blend between pretty and functional. I just got a Kitchenaid (for Valentines Day) and I love it too! Thanks for always being so inspiring!

Leigh Anne you have so much style and I wouldn’t expect anything less in your kitchen. It is beautiful. Makes me want to pull up a stool and hang out there with you!

Your kitchen even “feels like home” in the pictures. I love that you can see your garden. Being in the kitchen with family and gardening … some of the simple pleasures in life! Thanks or sharing.

I guessed right!! I would love to sit on a bar stool in your kitchen and watch you cook dinner for your family! I know you miss having more mouths to feed–me too!

OK, so my choice was wrong, but my logic was right. I agree with you about the preference for great pics to accompany recipes!

Of course it’s beautiful…. but best of all is that I have sweet memories of spending time in there with you. As I look at the beautiful pictures too, I can’t help but think what a treasure those photos are going to be to your children and grandchildren. It’s the kind of photo that ends up on the cover of a beautiful tribute book given to you for your 80th + birthday. They’re iconic! Makes me want to make sure I have pics of me in all my favorite places. I love you Leigh Anne! Thanks for sharing!

Fabulous kitchen.
Can I move in?
I’ll blend, I am 6ft tall with red hair, I won’t stand out at all.
LOL

Yea ~ I guessed it! It looks wonderful! Maybe I’ll get a chance to see it in person today? Hope so!

Beautiful! I love the big island. What a nice gathering place – I hope to have one some day. Plus, I’d be in heaven to have a view like your garden out my back window.

Rooms are favorites when they leave you feeling refreshed. By the images you share, it’s obvious it does.

I love your kitchen, too.

It is big and beautiful I love it. Mine is small and really old style. I rent this home so I can’t change it so I make the best of what I have.

Love it! My favorite part is the counters meeting right up to the windows! I have a big window in mine, too, which also lets in a lot of light. Great job decorating!

I used to get mad in high school because sometimes my friends would ask if they you could go and hang out in my kitchen and talk with my mom. And of course every time we did there was some fresh treat on the counter.

Love you Mom!

Lovely! I’m actually thinking about painting my kitchen walls a similar color. I’ve got it narrowed to down to a lemony/buttery yellow or a taupe. Now that I can see that color contrasting with the white cabinets, I’m leaning toward the yellow. Thanks for the visual!

Thanks for all your sweet comments about my kitchen! I’ve had a couple of emails about the color of my walls. It is called Maple and it is a Divine Color – it is a line of paint they carry at Miller Paint. I love it – soft and creamy!

I keep coming back to this post and looking at the pictures. I never would have noticed the appliances were mismatched! So, you have inspired me. My kitchen, although it is enviably large, has been the one room in my house were I have been stumped at how to make it cute and pretty and me! Thanks for the ideas. I think after Spring break, I will try to tackle it.
What it the saying you have on the wall in your dining nook, above the picture?
And, it would like you to weigh in on Bosch verses KitchenAids, I am shopping for something.

I love posts about kitchens and it’s always a treat to meet a new friend and visit her in her kitchen. Love it!

The saying on my kitchen wall says “Each day comes bearing it’s own gifts…untie the ribbons.”

I am definitely a Kitchen Aid girl – all the way!!
Leigh Anne

Just surfing and found this page with MY pottery in it! I made the ladybug stuff and the berry washer in the cabinet.
Cool!
I have a kitchen Aide mixer too, and it is the bomb in my kitchen. Love it.

Nice collection of AlliCat pottery and it’s great that you use it too.
