Forgetting the Fun?

Question of the Week

How do you make sure you focus on fun and not just work, work, work?

Leigh Anne says…
That’s a hard one for me. I struggle with being “present”. When I am playing I have a hard time not thinking about work and when I am working my mind is thinking of all the things I’d rather or need to be doing! The best way for me to make sure I get some fun is to schedule it – plan it and write it on the calendar. Also if I include someone else in my fun, invite them to join me, I am less likely to cancel out of the fun because I have too many other things to do!!

Sherra says…
I schedule my fun just like my work. I need to have fun as much as I need/have to work. I also know that when I take “fun breaks”, I am much better at coming back and focusing on my work. Sometimes though, when work is so much fun like it usually is when Leigh Anne and I work together – the work and fun lines blur together which I truly love!

I’m looking forward to lots of responses because it has always been difficult for me to stop, relax (my massage therapist says I’m the tighest person she ever works on), and just have FUN. I do force myself to do something FUN each week with a friend–take a class, go for a walk, go to the temple, out to eat, work on a project, etc. I live in an older neighborhood and I love visiting with the older neighbors and gleaning their wisdom. I do remember all the birthdays of the women in my Church group, so this is fun to sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY many times each week.

Because it is so easy to get carried away in your ‘free time’ doing housework or yard work or work work, my husband and I have a rule for weekends: NO WORK after 1 p.m. This gives us a time limit (goal) to get our projects done and allows us the whole afternoon/evening to ENJOY!

Kerri,

Love that no work after 1 p.m. rule on Saturdays – I’m going to have to try that!
