Hey there! My name is Amy Huntley and I can normally be found at The Idea Room. I am a married, stay at home mother of five kids. I love to create. I especially love to do and create things that help my family and I ENJOY our time together.
Favorite color:
Green
Favorite food you associate with Fall:
Soup and Warm Bread
Pet Peeve?
Hearing food being chewed!
What is something that no one knows about you? (that you want to tell the whole internet world):
I have to sleep with my feet out of the covers. I kick out the covers if they are tucked in (hotel beds are the worst) and put my feet out, but they can NOT hang over the edge of the bed because of the monsters under it.
One word that describes you: Busy!
What’s your motto or mantra:
Just Do It!
What are the top three things that are most important to you — the things you love to do and you are passionate about?
Family, Creating and Food.
I am excited to be a guest blogger here on iLashGirls. What a great opportunity! At our house Fall is our favorite season of the year for many reasons. We love Halloween for the enjoyable things we get to do together as a family. We have a Halloween feast sometime the week before Halloween depending on what will fit into our schedule. We prepare and eat all sorts of gross, but yummy foods. Our main meal consists of Mummy Pizza’s and/or Mummy Dogs. Or serve your favorite soup out of some pumpkin shaped bread bowls. We also serve Edible Eyeballs, Jell-O Blood Worms, and Monster Toes which are bread sticks with a cashew for the toenail. Sometimes my kids like to dip their Monster Toes into some of our famous Ghost Snot (ranch dressing). Sometimes we serve Dried Scabs (dried cranberries) with a side of Brain Jell-O which we make in plastic brain mold. Then for dessert we have been known to gobble up some Witch Fingers…Yum! The possibilities are endless. Get Creative! This is the one time of the year my kids ENJOY gross and silly things during dinner.
Some other things you can do to ENJOY Halloween more is to add dry ice to your Jack-O-Lanterns. You can do this by placing a tall container (like a frozen orange juice can which has been emptied) of water in your carved pumpkin. Then add a small piece of dry ice to the water. The smoke will fall to the lowest point and empty out of the holes of the pumpkin. So a taller container will allow the vapors to seep out of the higher openings. This will make a spooky addition to your Halloween dinner party or front porch.
Another trick we enjoy is making a talking Jack-O-Lantern. Take a baby monitor and hide it in one of your carved Jack-O-Lanterns (that is minus the candle) or hide it in your bushes near your front door. When the trick-or-treaters come, talk into the receiving end so that those outside the door can hear you but won’t be able to see you! Be careful with this as you may send some poor little kids running for dear life. We like to look out the peep hole to see if they are young kids. We usually do not try to scare the young kids, but the older kids with pillowcases full of candy are fair game!
There are a lot of other enjoyable Halloween food ideas and games out there. I also have some fun decorating ideas on my site. But whatever you do, take some time to ENJOY the Halloween season with your family and friends. Kids grow up too fast and soon they will want to spend the holiday with their friends. ENJOY it while you can!
